June 9, 2020 - Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Dear Cornerstone Family,

With all that this nation has been through in these past weeks and months, I find myself grateful to be a part of the family of God, a community that values tolerance, kindness, and respect.  As a community, we pursue these values and welcome all people with enviable grace.

The recent seclusion from family and friends due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been overwhelming, not to mention the loss of jobs, and more importantly the loss of lives. And just as we were beginning to see the light starting to emerge, our nation was once again rattled by racial inequality.   The racial-related tension and dissension within our nation these past weeks have impacted us all. The video of George Floyd has been painful to watch and the widespread violent protests around the country have been heartbreaking.

If our focus is on what is going on in the world we will certainly fall apart, but if we lift our eyes up to heaven and trust in the Lord; then he will certainly sustain us and guide us through the storm.  “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed.  If you look within, you’ll be depressed.  If you look at God you’ll be at rest.” Corrie Ten Boom.

I urge all parents, students, teachers, and staff members to develop a genuine pursuit of Biblical reconciliation.  Continue to pray for our nation. Have intentional conversations about empathy, kindness, respect, and understanding; recognize differences and similarities. As you have these impacting conversations with your family, friends, and others remember that we are ambassadors for our Lord, Christ Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:20)

Let us continue our walk as stated in 1 John 3:18; “Dear children let us not love with words or tongue but with action and in truth.”

June 1, 2020 - Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Dear Parents,

I pray this letter finds you and your family well and safe.  I am happy to announce that the Cornerstone Christian School office staff is now back in the office. Our office hours are Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. My office staff and I will be available to answer questions and to hand out any forms that you may need.  Please feel free to call us.

As we begin to prepare for the end of this school year, we are also looking ahead to the 2020-2021 school year.  In order to prepare properly for the coming school year, we are asking those of you who have not handed in your re-registration forms to please do so now.  In order to follow the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines effectively, we need to know how many students will be attending per grade.  CCS will be sanitizing and restructuring every classroom.  If your intent is for your son/daughter to return to CCS in the fall, then you need to bring in your re-registration form to the office as soon as possible.  Once a grade has met the legal and safe capacity it will be closed for any new enrollment.  There will be no exceptions.

Upon our return to school in the fall, CCS will be implementing the CDC guidelines which include; temperature check of all students, staff, and teachers upon school arrival, washing of hands, wearing of facemask for all students, teachers and staff members, social distancing, and the limiting of outside visitors.  This information will be updated through the summer as we receive updates from the CDC.

One of the benefits of attending Cornerstone Christian School apart from adhering to high academic standards and the integration of the Biblical curriculum, is our small class sizes. Our number of students per class is 15 as appose to 32 students in a public school classroom.  Lower numbers of students in a classroom is important in adhering to the CDC guidelines.  Due to the public school’s large number of students per class, they may be conducting half-day school sessions for all grades this fall.  Since CCS has small class sizes we will be able to offer full day classes this fall for all grades; Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten through Eighth grade.

There will be many changes implemented for the upcoming school year, please know that we are working hard in order to make sure that you feel confident that we are doing everything possible to secure a safe environment for your child, our student.

Please refer to the upcoming events:

  • May 29 - last day for Spanish class assignments
  • June 19 - last day for remote teaching
  • June 17, 18, 19 - Book return for all grades

Please come to CCS between 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM to drop off school books.

  • June 22-26 - teacher/parent conferences via telephone
  • June 22-25 – report card pick up

All books must be returned and all tuition must be up to date in order to                 receive your child’s report card.

  • June 23 – Kindergarten Graduation (9:00 AM) and Eighth Grade Graduation (12:00 PM)

**Please call the office for clarification on any of the information mentioned above.

**More information will follow on both graduations.

May 15, 2020 - Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Dear Parents,

In this unprecedented time of crisis and disruption there are many people receiving accolades for their services and rightfully so. Our front-liners risk their health everyday working in hospitals, supermarkets, and mail delivery etc. We salute them for their service. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you the parent. I thank you for your patience.  Our teachers, just like all teachers around the country were unexpectedly tossed into the remote teaching realm.  We had some hiccups along the way; however, we got it together and made it work.  Thank you for bearing with us while we learned along with our students to navigate the system.  Thank you for making sure that your child, our student, participated and completed their assignments, and thank you for honoring your contract with Cornerstone Christian School.

As we approach the end of the school year, I would like to inform you of the changes made to our school calendar.  They are as follows:

  •  The last day for remote teaching will be June 19, 2020.

  • Report cards will be available during the week of June 22, 2020.  Report cards will include grades for the 3rd and 4th marking periods.

  • The week of June 22 through June 25 will be reserved for virtual or telephone teacher/parent conferences.

  • The field trip to Spruce Lake for 7th and 8th graders scheduled for May 27-29 has been canceled due to COVID-19 gathering regulations.

  • Our annual Field day scheduled for June 19, 2020 has been canceled due to COVID-19 gathering regulations.

  • The registration deadline has been canceled.  You can still put in your registration form for the 2020-2021 school years.

  • Kindergarten and eighth grade graduations; right now, our plans are to wait until the end of June and try to have an outdoor graduation.  This all depends on where we are with the “shelter in place” mandate implemented by both Governor Cuomo and County Executive Ed Day.  We will certainly have a graduation ceremony; whether it will be an outdoor one or a virtual one we do not know right now.

As we approach the ending of the school year and head towards the finish line, please know that our teachers have worked very hard in order to help their students to continue to achieve their academic potential.  Thank you for partnering with them during this extraordinary season.

In His Service,

Jeannette Rosa-Sanchez, MS, MLSW

May 1, 2020 - Letter from Mrs.
Sanchez

Dear Parents,

By now you may have already heard that Governor Cuomo has extended the school closure through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

My desire would have been to reopen Cornerstone Christian School; however, we must adhere to the directives of the medical experts and Governor Cuomo.

Our teachers will continue to teach their curriculum remotely and be available to their students and parents via email.

With that said, I will be working on a plan along with my staff that will include the following:

-       Assessing student performance during the remote teaching period

-       Eighth grade graduation

-       Kindergarten graduation

-       Entrance testing for new incoming students

-       Reopening of CCS for the 2020-2021 school year.

I will have more information on the above as soon as we develop a plan.  Please be patient and know that we desire the best for our students. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 New International Version).

April 27, 2020 - Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Good afternoon Parents,

I pray that all is well with you and your family members.  As we approach the end of April and the uncertainty of things to come in May, I turn to God for direction for he is the only one that knows what lies ahead.  “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Within the next week or so, we should be hearing what the directives are from Governor Cuomo in regards to opening up the schools in Rockland County.  My desire would be that we could come back this year and have a few weeks to evaluate our student’s progress during this remote teaching period. I would also like to proceed with our kindergarten and eighth grade graduations.  With that said, we here at Cornerstone Christian School are very well aware of the safety factors that will have to be put in place and will follow the guidelines from the Contagious Disease Center (CDC) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

There is no certainty that the Governor is going to open up the schools; however, we need to start planning as though he is, so that when the time comes, we are not caught off guard.  You as parents must put this into prayer and seek the Lord’s direction on what your plan will be for your child when the school opens.

I, as well as my staff, continue to pray for you and your families, as we also continue to pray for God’s direction in everything we do here at Cornerstone Christian School.

Our hope and our trust are in him alone.  Stay safe and stay healthy; as we are one more day closer to leaving this behind us.  As written in Philippians 3:13-14 NIV, “… But this one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

April 17, 2020 - Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Dear Parents,

As you may have already heard by now, Governor Cuomo has extended the New York Pause Order through May 15, 2020, this applies to schools including religious and independent schools.  This new Executive Order means that schools may possibly reopen after May 15, 2020.

This has been a very difficult time for us all, however, we know who controls our future and who is guiding us through this whole situation.  In everything, we have to trust our Lord.  Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  They will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint.”

I will continue to keep you informed as I receive new information.  Our staff will continue to keep our Cornerstone Christian School students and families in our prayers.  We will get through this together and we will come back stronger than ever, especially in our faith for hopefully we are spending more time in His presence.

In His Service,

Jeannette Rosa-Sanchez, MS, LMSW

April 14, 2020 - Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Good Afternoon Parents,

I pray everyone had a blessed Easter celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At present, I do not have any updates from the New York Education Department nor have we heard from our Governor or President regarding the re-opening of schools. Until we receive notice on a reopening date, CCS teachers will continue to teach remotely.

Thank you for working with us in ensuring that our students, your children continue to receive the academic instruction needed to finish this academic year with success.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 NIV

April 7, 2020 - Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Dear Parents,

This is an update on the reopening date for schools. Yesterday, in his daily briefing, Governor Cuomo extended the school closures until April 29, 2020.

As previously stated, the continuation of our educational curriculum is my priority and also the priority of our teachers. We will continue our curriculum via remote teaching.

I will continue to keep you informed as I receive information from the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

Isaiah 40:31 states, “…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” We continue to persevere with the Lord as our shield and strength.

April 6, 2020 - Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Dear Parents,

I cannot believe that we are entering our fifth week of remote teaching.

I would like to express my gratitude to all of my teachers and special-area teachers for their wonderful work in connecting with their students and parents and for the ongoing academic instruction.

I also would like to applaud the Kindergarten parents; especially Mrs. Burton who reached out to all of the Kindergarten parents to organize a Zoom meeting in which the parents and students gathered together. We all have to work together; parents, teachers and administration in order to keep our students safe, mentally nourished and academically strong.

We will rise above this stronger than ever. 2 Corinthians 12:10 states, “That is why, for Christ sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am week, then I am strong.”

As I receive information from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) on the reopening of school, I will update you. As for now, our teachers will continue to teach their students via remote teaching.

This week, teachers will be conducting their lessons Monday through Wednesday. CCS will be observing Holy Thursday, April 9th, and Good Friday, April 10th.  We will resume remote instruction on Monday April 13th.

Be blessed for He Has Risen! (Luke 24:6)

April 1, 2020 -  Letter from Mrs. Sanchez

Good Afternoon Parents,

I have received emails inquiring about "Spring Break" this year.  According  to New York State Education Department (NYSED) and Governor Cuomo, "Schools are expected to provide continuity of learning (i.e. continued instruction)    ...each day of the closure through April 15, 2020.  Including during what was previously calendared as "Spring Break."

CCS will, however, observe April 9, Holy Thursday, and April 10, Good Friday.  On those days there will be no  instruction. Teachers will resume instruction on Monday, April 13, 2020.

Stay safe and stay healthy remembering, that the Lord is a shield around us.

In His Service,

Jeannette Rosa-Sanchez, MS, LMSW

MARCH 30, 2020 - From the Desk of Mrs. J. Rosa-Sanchez...

Dear Parents,
I pray that everyone is staying safe and healthy along with your families.
I know that we are all feeling the strain of the crisis, however, be encouraged that we serve a mighty God, who is in control of everything. He will never leave us nor forsake us. Joshua 1:5 says, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you."
Please continue to follow the guidelines from the CDC for slowing down the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Please pray for our president and elected officials, so that the Lord gives them guidance and wisdom in handling this situation. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, "...I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions..."
I assure you that Cornerstone Christian School teachers and staff will continue to actively be available to you and our students. Our teachers continue to be hard at work preparing daily lessons and connecting with their students via Google classroom and Zoom video. Our goal is to keep instruction going so that our students' education remains on track.
Again, I understand that this is a difficult time for parents, students, and teachers. However, let's continue to work together and we will rise up stronger together for we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Phillippians 4:13).
In His Service,

Jeannette Rosa-Sanchez, MS, LMSW

March 27, 2020 - A letter from Mrs. Rosa-Sanchez...

Dear Parents,

This is an update on the reopening date for schools.  Today Governor Cuomo extended the school closure order for another two weeks.  The return date now for all schools is April 15, 2020.

Cornerstone Christian School teachers are prepared to continue teaching their curriculum via Google classroom and Zoom video.

Please know that the continuation of our educational curriculum is my priority and also the priority of our teachers.  Keeping our students on schedule with their academics is essential and we will continue to do our very best to accomplish this.

I will continue to keep you informed as I receive information from the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

Please note that our trust should not be in men but in our mighty God.  Proverbs 3: 5-6 states, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your path straight."

In His service,
